VocabAura privacy policy

Effective date: 1 October 2026

VocabAura is designed to work without an account. The app stores your nickname, learning preferences, practice history, rewards and settings locally on your device.

Information handled by the app

VocabAura asks for a nickname or first name, age range, learner type, vocabulary level and learning goals so it can personalise practice. This information remains in the app’s local database. VocabAura does not send it to the developer.

When you export a backup, you choose its destination using the system file picker. That destination may be a service such as iCloud Drive or Google Drive. The selected service handles the file under its own privacy terms. VocabAura does not operate a cloud account or synchronisation server.

Purchases and purchase restoration are processed by Apple through the App Store (and by Google Play on Android). VocabAura receives the transaction status needed to unlock the Full version. The developer does not receive your full payment-card details.

Pronunciation uses the device text-to-speech service. "Say it" speaking practice uses the microphone only while you tap Say it. The app asks the operating system for on-device speech recognition (on iPhone it requires on-device recognition; on Android it is offered only on devices that report on-device recognition). VocabAura does not record, store or send your audio or the recognised text. iOS shows Apple's standard speech-recognition permission message, which describes Apple's service in general. Sharing a word card creates an image of that word only and never includes your learning history. "Add from reading" looks for library words in text you paste or share into the app (on Android, also text you select and send to VocabAura); the text is checked on the device and discarded, and only the words you choose, plus the one sentence each came from if you leave that option on, are saved in your collection on this device. Phrase Finder matches a description you type to library words using a small language model bundled inside the app; it runs on the device, needs no connection and sends nothing anywhere. Sentences you write in "Use it" are not stored unless you choose "Keep my sentence", which adds them to your own note for that word. The current release does not include advertising, developer analytics, third-party behavioural tracking or a developer-operated AI service.

Children and students

Families can add up to six learners on one device with VocabAura Full. Each learner's progress is kept in a separate file on the device, so learners never see each other's words, notes or results. Deleting a learner in the parent area removes that learner's file from the device.

A parent can set a Parent PIN. It is stored only on the device, as a salted one-way hash in the device's secure storage (the Keychain on iPhone and iPad, encrypted storage on Android), and is never included in backups or sent anywhere. If the parent allows it, Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint or the device passcode can be used to replace a forgotten PIN; VocabAura only receives a yes or no from the device and never any biometric data.

VocabAura can be used by students with a parent or guardian. It does not provide public profiles, messaging or social sharing. Non-adult profiles use an adult gate before starting an in-app purchase.

Retention and deletion

Learning data remains on the device until it is changed, reset or the app is deleted. An exported backup remains wherever the user saved it and can be deleted there by the user.
